I'll even add, don't bother with the expansions. You could also go all out and buy a current box of termies and make sure to pose them appropriately. These are the same as in 2nd and very approachable in price. If you can't live with the dynamic Terminators, pick up a box of classic Terminators: So if I'm only gonna own one version of SpaceHulk I'd rather have the one that looks good and where I won't have to go eBay hunting to get expansions. So when I were in your situation a few years ago this was my logic:ġst is the original classic, but with the expansions I've put myself in a Mage of the Mirror/Frozen Horror situation. again, the marines just don't look very good. Which means they are perfect as the game pieces they are supposed to be.ġst edition. They look really good but they just kinda "stand" there and point their guns. This is my only complaint over 4th.Ģnd has much more classic Terminators. In a game where facing is a thing, having dynamic poses isn't really that smart. They really *lemony goodness* all over the other editions. 3rd/4th has these really beautiful super detailed dynamic models. Enough said.ġst edition tiles frankly look like garbage. They have even been embossed to create a pseudo 3D effect.Ģnd edition also have some very nice tiles. What I hear though is that the rules in 1st are very good - 2nd not so good - 3rd goes back to the roots - 4th fixes a few mistakes from 3rd.īut the components in 3rd/4th are unparalleled. Only the latest version so I'm in no condition to compare the rules. I haven't played the original Space Hulk. Once you are into the basic rules it's really simple (just like HQ). You sometimes fire ten shots and hit absolutely nothing - and then a couple of Gretchin headshot two of your marines the next turn. I'll say it's a "beer and pretzels" game. If you are okay with that it's an absolutely blast to play. In short: SC is not a good game for homebrewing and customization.

You need to use a certain amount of monsters or again, the score system gets whacked. A squad more or less totally destroys the score system. You can't play SC with anything but 1 Alien player and 3 Marine Squads. I think the reason HQ got all the fame while SC is much more unknown is because SC is balanced around a certain setup. Personally I think Space Crusade is absolutely just as fun as HeroQuest. SH is much more of a strategic/puzzle game. SC is more action packed with lots of rolls and lots of kills. Most importantly SC is 1 vs 3 while SH is 1 vs 1. They are two completely different games, with only the setting in common. Yes, there's a huge difference between SC and SH.
